A GLORIOUS RETREAT IN RURAL SHROPSHIRE
Neen Sollars lies three miles to the south of Cleobury Mortimer, on the Shropshire / Worcestershire county line, in the heart of the beautiful Rea and Teme valleys. The “Live and Let Live”, a famous local inn full of history, overlooks Neen Sollars, and the holiday bungalow is next to but entirely separate from the pub. The Live and Let live itself is a fascinating country inn full of old carvings, oak beams, stained glass and a very special atmosphere.
It first became a public house in 1875, with beer barrels and customers sharing the same rooms! Until about 1960, The Live remained a small country inn and in fact the other pub in the village, The Railway Tavern, now closed, was much the better known of the two hostelries.
That is until a certain Jim Parkes came upon the scene. He it was who extended the pub to the generous proportions you will find today and endowed it with the fabulous collection of carved wood, oak panelling, Flemish stained glass and divers artefacts. The Angel Fireplace is a particularly fine example of what you can expect to charm you on your visit. Outside, there are extensive gardens full of mature trees and shrubs, albeit a little overgrown but major restoration work is underway!
On to the important matter of food and drink you will find excellent traditional beers in the bar, Hobson’s Best Bitter from the award-winning brewery at Cleobury Mortimer is our house bitter, and you will always find one or more guest beers on hand pump as well.
We offer a varied menu consisting mostly of our own homemade dishes, all.at reasonable prices. Starters range from £2.95 and main courses are priced at around £7. We are particularly strong on fresh fish which comes from Eric The Fish in Kidderminster; it helps that Eric himself lives next door to the pub!
We offer accommodation for up to 4 guests in two bedrooms, one with a double bed, the other with two single beds. There is fully fitted kitchen, a shower room, and a comfortable lounge contained in a large conservatory. The bungalow is set in its own gardens, complete with terraces and garden furniture.
